White Paper acknowledges lightweighting as a main driver for sustainable transport

Brussels, 28 March 2011 – The European Aluminium Association (EAA) welcomes today’s call for lighter and more efficient vehicles in the Commission’s White Paper on Transport and strongly supports the promotion of light-weighting as part of the EU’s strategy towards more sustainable transport by 2020. 

EAA: EP vote on CO2 emissions “a missed opportunity”

Brussels, 15 February 2011 – Today’s vote in the European Parliament on the
Regulation on CO2 emissions from vans shows that EU decision–makers still shy
away from using lightweighting as a means to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles,
according to the European Aluminium Association (EAA). Instead, the adopted
Regulation allows heavier vehicles to emit more CO2.

Aluminium industry delivers on sustainability

European Parliament, Brussels, 16 March 2011 – The European Aluminium Association (EAA) presented today its 2010 Sustainable Development Indicators (SDI) report during a high-profile workshop hosted by the MEP Martin Callanan at the European Parliament. The report demonstrates that the aluminium’s contribution to sustainability is significant, although according to EAA many political challenges must be addressed to support the industry’s efforts.

EAA welcomes renewed focus of Energy Efficiency Action Plan

Brussels, 8 March 2011
The European Aluminium Association (EAA) today welcomes the focus of the Commission’s new Energy Efficiency Action Plan on the
building sector. Upfront investment costs however remain the most significant
barrier to increased efficiency, and this is why financial support is critical.
“There are potentially massive energy savings to be gained from buildings and as a key
building technology aluminium can more than play its part” said Patrick de Schrynmakers, EAA’s Secretary General.

Dr Monica Dietl starts as COST Office Director

Dr Monica Dietl is joining the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) as its
new COST Office Director. COST is one of the longest running intergovernmental programmes
supporting collaboration between scientists and researchers in Europe and beyond. The COST
Office is provided by the European Science Foundation (ESF) through a European Commission
