EGBA concerned at EC Green Paper on online gambling

   The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) welcomes today’s publication of the Green Paper on online gambling that will allow for a factual discussion at EU level. At the same time, the EGBA expresses its concern with the apparent lack of commitment to curb further fragmentation of the common market and ensure that consumers throughout the EU enjoy consistent standards of regulated, safe and high-quality products.

Consumer rights extended to on-line purchases

The European Parliament has voted today on a number of important amendments to improve consumer rights in the EU. The votes amend the European Commission's proposal for a new consumer rights directive intended to update and replace a set of four existing laws regarding sales of goods and services from business-to-consumer. But the vote on the overall text was postponed in order to keep open the chance for a first reading agreement with the Council.

Consumer rights rules - EP votes to strengthen consumer protection EU-wide

The European Parliament today voted its position on new EU rules on consumer rights (1). While the Greens would have preferred a more ambitious proposal in terms of setting out broader minimum EU consumer rights, the EP has voted to strengthen the legislation in key areas and this would mark a step forward for EU-wide consumer protection. After the vote, Greens/EFA MEP and shadow draftsperson Emilie Turunen said:

Air Transport: EU and US Air Protocol adopted. Artur Zasada MEP

The mutual opening of the European Union and the United States' air markets will bring economic benefits for the air carriers, as well as guaranteeing all passengers a new quality in transatlantic connections. Today, the European Parliament adopted by a large majority the Report by Artur Zasada MEP. The Report refers to the protocol which amends the Air Transport Agreement between the EU and US. The air traffic markets of both constitute approximately 60% of the world's air traffic.

Vice-President Siim Kallas discusses priorities for the future of rail with the CEOs of rail Infrastructure Managers

European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas today participated in a meeting of the CEOs of European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM). The discussions provided a preview on the European Commission’s Transport White Paper due to be published next week, and covered the issues that EIM sees as the most important priorities for the European rail network in the years to come: financing of rail infrastructure, rail freight corridors, asset management, interoperability and safety.
