The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) unveiled its scenarios for urban transport in 2025 today at the plenary session of its 59th World Congress taking place in Dubai from 10 to 14 April 2011. It compares the economic, environmental and social impacts of urban transport in a business-as-usual scenario (BAU) and in a ‘PTx2’ scenario. It highlights the benefits of doubling the public transport market share worldwide by 2025 and illustrates how to achieve this.

TAP BEGINS ESIA SUBMISSION PROCESS IN ALBANIA

Pipeline committed to meeting European Best Practice Guidelines

Baar, Switzerland. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) today announced that it has begun the formal Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process, with the submission of the Scoping Report. The document was presented to the Albanian national and regional authorities, as well as to more than 100 other relevant stakeholders. It meets the Best Practice Guidelines laid down by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Boosting public transport: Action! 59th UITP World Congress & Exhibition

Dubai, 10 April 2011. The 59th World Congress and Exhibition of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), hosted by the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), was officially inaugurated today in the presence of HH Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Under the slogan ‘Boosting public transport: Action!’, the event is a key milestone of the UITP ‘PTx2’ strategy, which aims at doubling the public transport market share worldwide by 2025.

CEEP calls for ‘Acquis + for Services of General Interest’

This is one of the key proposals mentioned in the CEEP Opinion about the Single Market Act which was adopted yesterday by the CEEP General Assembly. Carl Cederschiöld, President of CEEP said, “Services of general interest are indispensible for a successful re-launch of the single market and growth, but the measures proposed are not sufficient to reach the goals that are being aimed. CEEP has therefore taken the initiative and puts forward additional propositions, altogether called ‘Acquis + for Services of General Interest’”.
