EPP Presents its political vision at the U.S. Republican Convention

St. Paul, 3 September 2008: On Tuesday, 2 September 2008, the European People’s Party (EPP) hosted in St. Paul (U.S.) a public event with representatives of the Republican Party, international leaders, policy experts and business executives. More than 300 participants attended the event, which took place on the margins of the Convention that the Republican Party, which will be officially nominating Senator John McCain as its candidate for President of the United States.

New pan-European treaty on security & cooperation required

Brussels, 02/09/2008: Following the summit of European heads of state and government on the situation in the Caucasus and during the ensuing debate in the European Parliament last night, GUE/NGL President Francis Wurtz warned that to "adopt a pro-Georgian or pro-Russian stance vis-à-vis the crisis in the Caucasus could only lead to an impasse." 

Significant slow down of investment in EU telecoms sector in 2007

BRUSSELS – Latest data for 2007 show a significant slow down in investment in new telecoms services and networks in the EU. Total sector investment has increased by 1.4 % in 2007 against 4.1% in 2006. The five main EU markets register an overall reduction of investment by 3.8%[1][1].

EU-Russia relations: Russian actions threaten to derail new cooperation agreement

Ahead of the emergency summit of EU leaders that will take place in Brussels on Monday 1st September 2008 to discuss the future of EU-Russia relations, in view of the conflict between Russia and Georgia, ELDR Party President, Annemie Neyts, stated

The opening of talks in July for a new cooperation agreement between the EU and Russia should have marked the beginning of enhanced cooperation between the two partners that would be mutually beneficial, but Russia’s actions in Georgia and continued military presence there threaten to derail this process.

EFSA’s first conclusions on EU-wide dietary guidelines confirm and support EuSalt’s position

Brussels, 26 August 2008 - EuSalt, the association of European salt producers, considers EFSA’s first conclusion that it is impossible to develop dietary guidelines that are valid across all EU-countries as a confirmation of its own position. EuSalt repeats that generalisation of salt requirements is impossible because of the differences between various population groups.
