The European Commission today published a standardisation package. In a draft Regulation, it proposes to accelerate, simplify and modernise standardisation necessary to complete the internal market.

The passage to the 'new approach', i.e. the alliance between EU legislation and the harmonisation of technical norms, has been fundamental for the free movement of goods and has helped remove the barriers to free trade within the single European market.

DOUBLING SAVINGS ACCOUNTS FOR THE POOR WSBI seeks to create 10 million sustainable and affordable savings accounts

World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI) works together with ten banks in developing countries to double the number of sustainable and affordable savings accounts for the poor. In developing countries 90% of households do not have access to formal financial services. This is particularly the case in rural areas, where low population density makes a traditional bank branch unsustainable. WSBI bank members are working on alternative delivery channels to provide access to financial services to people living in remote areas and earning low and irregular incomes.
