BRUSSELS, 6 June 2011 – The automobile manufacturers in Europe are hosting a unique event on 23 June 2011 in the Autoworld Museum, Brussels, where Europe’s students and young professionals from across Europe will compile and present their “Book of Ideas” about the future of mobility and transport and the importance of a matching manufacturing base and skills. The event includes debate sessions with EU policy makers and industry CEOs from several car, truck and bus manufacturers (detailed programme attached).

This event is the formal launch of the “Our Future Mobility Now” project organised by ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, on behalf of the 16 major vehicle makers in Europe. “Our Future Mobility Now” seeks to give today’s young people a voice about how to move people and goods in an increasingly fast-paced, connected and global world and respond to environmental, societal and economic challenges at the same time. Through an on-line competition young people have signed up for a to two-day workshops in Brussels on 22 & 23 June to explore together topics such as new mobility services, future skills, new technologies and connectivity.

The young Europeans will present their views and ideas to EU and industry leaders in the afternoon of 23 June. Several debate sessions with CEOs and EU policy makers and a theatre play will follow. Special guests include European Commissioners, MEPs, automobile industry CEOs, presidents of student associations. A special touch-and-feel exhibition will be open throughout the programme, providing a sneak peek on new developments in connectivity, manufacturing & skills, infrastructure, technology and concepts that will shape mobility in the years to come.

The dialogue will then be continued on-line as well as with on-site activities across Europe. The event in Brussels will be held in close cooperation with the EU ‘Youth on the Move’ project promoting mobility in education and training throughout Europe.
