PU Europe: SMEs are main losers in Parliament vote on F Gas Regulation

Yesterday, the European Parliament’s Environment Committee adopted its first reading report on the Regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases. The regulation should reduce the global warming potential of F gases placed on the EU market to 16 % compared to current levels by 2030. In addition, MEPs propose early phase-out dates for numerous applications.

NEW GSMA STUDY REVEALS THAT SPECTRUM FOR MOBILE DELIVERS HIGHEST ECONOMIC IMPACT IN EUROPE

20 June 2013, Brussels: The GSMA today issued a new report that demonstrates that mobile services generate the greatest economic value of eight major applications of spectrum1. Developed by Plum Consulting, the report ‘Valuing the Use of Spectrum in the EU’ reveals that mobile’s use of spectrum currently contributes € 269 billion to the economies of the EU’s 27 Member States, far more than any other use of spectrum, such as wireless local area networks and terrestrial broadcasting.

F-Gases Regulation Revision: EP ENVI Committee proposal would put EU Single Market at risk

  •     The suggested ban on the pre-charging of equipment would give companies based outside the EU a competitive advantage over those based within the EU.
  •     The suggested ban on stationary air conditioning and the suggested phase-down is too ambitious and will hamper heat pump technology.
  •     The suggested export ban of equipment would distort further European manufacturer’s competitive position.

Today the European Parliament’s Environment Committee voted for sweeping bans of f-gases in heat pumps, refrigeration and air-conditioning.

Fluorinated greenhouse gases: EP Environment committee deadlines are unrealistic

Today, the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety committee of the European Parliament adopted the report on fluorinated greenhouse gases by Green MEP, Bas Eickhout, and voted for unrealistic deadlines as regards the entry into force of a service ban for refrigeration equipment. It also calls for an allocation fee system, which is overly bureaucratic. All these measures will result in increased costs for the commerce sector.
