S&Ds push for strong pay transparency rules to close the gender pay gap

Today the European Parliament’s employment and social affairs, and women’s rights and gender equality committees voted for the negotiating mandate and Parliament’s position on the new pay transparency law, a first necessary step to end pay discrimination between men and women. This gap remains very high: on average, women in the EU earn 14.1% less than men in comparable positions.

In Brussels PGE calls for responsible decarbonisation of district heating

According to PGE, high-efficiency cogeneration should be one of the criteria defining an efficient heating and cooling system also after 2035. PGE is also calling for changes to the definition of an efficient heating and cooling system proposed in July 2021, allowing for full use of high-efficiency cogeneration. Nevertheless, any changes to the EU legislation should be implemented within a reasonable timeframe, taking into account technological possibilities and the specific characteristics of district heating systems in Member States.

Women on boards law, a key S&D demand for over a decade, is finally on track to become a reality!

Following the Council’s agreement, the European Parliament’s women’s rights and gender equality (FEMM) and legal affairs (JURI) committees will now vote on Wednesday on the negotiating mandate for the so-called Women on Boards Directive, which aims to improve gender balance among non-executive directors of companies in Europe. While the S&Ds are extremely happy with this positive development, we have been advocating for progress on the directive for a decade now.
