The S&D Group is urging the conservative EPP Group to stop playing politics with the rule of law and let the European Public Prosecutor’s Office carry out its work in Bulgaria without political interference. Despite ongoing investigations into serious allegations of fraud and corruption of EU funds in Bulgaria, the EPP Group is demanding a debate in next week’s plenary on the role of the European Public Prosecutor (EPPO) in Bulgaria following arrests of former government figures last week.

The European Commission published today the long awaited Sustainable Products Initiative, ultimately aimed at making all products on the EU market more durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable and energy efficient - in a nutshell, more sustainable. The Initiative also extends the scope of circularity requirements to a broader range of goods, in the attempt of addressing the challenges related to environmental impacts and resource-use while renewing the overall European approach to product policy.

S&Ds: European Parliament elections to be more European and transnational in future

Yesterday, the S&D Group led the reform of the European Parliament’s future elections. The reforms would introduce an EU-wide constituency list where lead candidates contend for the nomination of the Commission presidency. In the reform proposals on the European Electoral Law voted yesterday in the European Parliament’s constitutional affairs committee, S&D rapporteur Domènec Ruiz Devesa found a cross-party agreement on transnational candidate lists for 28 additional seats in the European Parliament.
