CPME Board meeting 15 March 2008 outcomes

CPME Subcommittees and Board met on 14 and 15 March 2008 in Ljubljana. This was the first Board meeting chaired by CPME President Dr Michael Wilks, who commenced his mandate on 1 January 2008 for a 2 year period.

TB is definitely a worldwide threat. Though most of the cases are detected in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, the importation of TB, including MDR-TB, from Eastern Europe and other countries to the EU is a serious concern for the European Union. In addition TB is also present in Northern America.

Washington DC – The US deregulatory regime has been successful in encouraging investment in next generation networks, say FCC (Federal Communications Commission) senior officials during a meeting on 19 March with a delegation of EU leading telecoms operators chaired by Michael Bartholomew, ETNO Director.

Concluding its series of meetings with US officials and industry representatives this week, the ETNO delegation had wide ranging discussions on current US and EU developments with Kevin Martin, FCC Chairman and FCC Commissioner Deborah Tate.

European public transport operators lay out priorities for urban mobility in EU

The EU Committee of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has just submitted to the European institutions its priority areas for developing a European policy on sustainable urban mobility.

Last September the European Commission published a Green paper on urban transport, ‘Towards a new culture for urban mobility’, thereby marking the start of a consultation phase which will result in an Action Plan on urban mobility. UITP’s recent position came in response to this consultation.
