‘Are you driving safely ?’ The European-wide safe driving campaign launched by the European tyre industry

During the 2nd European Road Safety Day organized by the European Commission in Paris on 13 October 2008, ETRMA actively promoted on its booth the European-wide safe driving campaigns launched by its members especially at national level.
Participants were particularly alerted on the importance of having a correct tyre pressure, and the need to regularly checking tyre tread depth. They were also invited to test their driving behaviours on the road through the e-safety quiz: Are you driving safely’, available on ETRMA website until end-October.

Over 91% of end of life tyres directed towards recycling and recovery routes

ETRMA confirms the positive trend in the European management of end of life tyres (ELTs) with a recovery rate exceeding 91% in 2007, more than 4% compared to the previous year.  For nearly 15 years, the European rate has followed an unstopped increase of the amount of tyres entering recycling/recovery treatment options.  As a result, a growing variety of new industrial and consumer’s products have provided the market with innovative and performing articles, responding to an increased demand and thus contributing to create a sustainable market for tyre derived products.

EP to reduce its carbon foot print by 30%

The European Parliament Bureau has decided to put forward a strategic plan to reduce the institution's carbon "footprint" by 30%, thus going beyond the EU undertaking to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. The Bureau welcomed an in-house study showing how the 30% reduction can be achieved, noting that Parliament's recent shift to the use of only "green electricity" in its three places of work has already reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 17%.

Steel users take the high ground ahead of European Commission preliminary findings
