MIF regulation would benefit businesses and consumers across the EU

The European Commission is expected to publish proposals concerning the fees charged on payments using electronic cards. The card scheme MasterCard has been pursuing an aggressive media campaign against such regulation. EuroCommerce calls on the European Commission not to be pressurized: all European businesses and consumers need and deserve strong regulation against these fees.

As Europe's population is ageing and its workforce continuously shrinking, innovative solutions have to be found in order to secure Europe's growth and innovation levels for the future. At the same time, people are living longer and are healthier and fitter, which allows them to participate in society and the labor market far beyond their 60s. Nevertheless, the path towards more labor market integration is still a rocky one for many older workers across Europe.

The interpretation services in the European Parliament should be more cost effective. The Parliament could save millions of euros by using 'interpretation on demand' more often. Dutch MEP Esther de Lange proposed this in a report adopted today in the Budgetary Control Committee.

"Unnecessary use of interpretation services should be avoided, so as to maintain the high quality of Parliament's linguistic services. This is indispensable to fully guarantee the right of Members to express themselves in the language of their choice," she said.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and ACCA sign joint agreement

A Memorandum of Concordat (MoC) has been signed by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

COMRES POLL: 1 IN 5 MEPS SAY EU ‘WOULD BE BETTER OFF’ WITHOUT THE UK - MORE THAN HALF SAY THEY WANT A UNITED STATES OF EUROPE

1 in 5 MEPs (20%) think that the EU would be better off if the UK left according to the latest ComRes Europoll™ survey. Although 48% of MEPs strongly disagree that the EU would be better off, a significant minority are sanguine about the prospect of the UK leaving the EU.

The survey was conducted among a representative sample of 100 MEPs drawn from across the Parliament, spanning all major political groups and Member States.
