Gathering in Rome early June, representatives of Italy’s major transmission and distribution system operators confirmed that all four battery technologies will be required to provide energy storage in the country with each being suitable for different purposes and grid configurations. The key issue for all actors is to create appropriate market and regulatory conditions for facilitating the usage of energy storage technologies including batteries.

The list of products considered for expansion was consolidated last week and expectations are high that this agreement will be concluded soon.

AEGEE-Europe denounces the attack to Youth Rights as the the Spanish Youth Council will be suppressed today

AEGEE-Europe, a European student organization present in 19 Spanish cities, claims that the closure of the Spanish Youth Council aggravates the vulnerability of young people in Spain and is a violation of the Constitutional right of youth to be allowed to participate in the political, social, economic and cultural decisions. The Spanish Cabinet of Ministers will approve this closure today in a pack of austerity measures in public administration, without consulting the views of young people.

European electricity & gas sector welcomes adoption of anti-VAT-fraud package by ECOFIN Council

As a group of ten European electricity & gas associations, comprising regulators, exchanges, brokers, clearing houses, transmission system operators, energy trading firms, utilities and guarantee of origin issuing bodies, we highly welcome today’s adoption of the anti-VAT-fraud package by the ECOFIN Council at its last meeting under the current Irish Council Presidency. This constitutes a major step towards the eradication of VAT fraud in the electricity and gas markets in Europe.

Yesterday, after long and difficult negotiations between political groups in the European Parliament, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs voted on the Enforcement Directive concerning the posting of workers. MEPs backed provisions that will help labour inspectorates in assessing the legality of posting without changing the definition of a posted worker.

Dublin, 21 June 2013 - Members of Parliament from all over Europe meet on 21 and 22 June 2013 in Dublin Castle for the 13th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency to demand leadership and more European cooperation on offshore wind and launch a Parliamentary Platform as a political support to the governmental North Seas Countries Offshore Grid Initiative (NSCOGI).

Posted workers vote: Employment committee endorses modern form of slavery

A majority of MEPs in the European Parliament's Employment Committee have shown their distain for workers' rights by giving the green light to a flawed report on posted workers.

With 30 MEPs voting in favour and 17 against, the Committee has granted a mandate for negotiations to begin.
