NSA and Europe: the US must provide full transparency. Axel Voss MEP

The USA must provide full transparency about the activities of the National Security Agency (NSA) in relation to EU Institutions and EU Member States. "We have taken action and will actively work for a proper investigation into the American Secret Service activities. We call on the Obama Administration to reveal and explain. Full transparency is the only way to regain our trust", said EPP Group MEP Axel Voss ahead of today's debate in plenary.

Lithuanian Presidency must break away from austerity doctrine

In a plenary debate this morning in the European Parliament, GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer set out the Group's expectations for the Lithuanian Presidency.

Following Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė's opening address where she set out her top Presidency priorities, MEP Zimmer commented: "I welcome the fact that with your Presidency an eastern European country will be taking over for the next six months and I hope that you will be an honest broker between the different EU institutions."

Croatian MEP Nikola Vuljanić joins GUE/NGL

The European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) welcomed its 35th member, Croatian MEP Nikola Vuljanić, at its Group meeting in Strasbourg this evening.

Vuljanić has been a member of the Croatian Parliament since 2003, representing first the People's Party and subsequently, from 2011, the Croatian Labour Party. In 2012 MEP Vuljanić became an observer in the European Parliament.
