The European Parliament is urging the European Commission and the Council to designate a European Children's Capital every year. 

S&Ds: Cohesion policy post-2027 should not be depleted by funds redirected to other needs

Today, the Socialists and Democrats voted in plenary for the adoption of the report on the implementation of the EU Cohesion policy 2014-2020, and its outcome on member states. S&Ds in favour of continuing trade assistance to Ukraine in the face of Russian war

In a sign of support for Ukraine, the Socialists and Democrats voted today in favour of continuing the EU trade benefits for Ukraine. 

However, following today's vote, the new regulation will still need to be agreed on with the Council during a trilogue procedure. The S&D Group is committed to finalise the negotiations on time, before the current measures expire, to avoid any disruptions.

Today, during a plenary debate in Strasbourg with the Finnish Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo, S&D Group leader Iratxe García strongly criticised the reforms carried out by the Finnish government. In her speech, García expressed her deep concern as these reforms promote dismissals, undermine social dialogue and restrict the right to strike. Also, the Finnish conservative government aims to reduce public spending on pensions, unemployment benefits, housing and parental allowances.
