Today, the Socialists and Democrats voted in plenary for the adoption of the report on the implementation of the EU Cohesion policy 2014-2020, and its outcome on member states. The S&D Group succeeded to bring to the fore ideas on what the future cohesion policy should be after the current programming period ends in 2027.

Today, during a plenary debate in Strasbourg with the Finnish Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo, S&D Group leader Iratxe García strongly criticised the reforms carried out by the Finnish government. In her speech, García expressed her deep concern as these reforms promote dismissals, undermine social dialogue and restrict the right to strike. Also, the Finnish conservative government aims to reduce public spending on pensions, unemployment benefits, housing and parental allowances.

The European Parliament today adopted revised rules of the Single Permit Directive that will improve the rights of workers coming from outside the EU. The Socialists and Democrats led the negotiations on revising single permit rules to demonstrate the benefits of legal pathways and regular migration.
