France’s influence in Europe: Can we still believe in it?

Ahead of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union to start on 1 July of this year, the last in current Troika framework, Hill & Knowlton has today presented the findings of an opinion poll measuring French perception of their country’s influence in the European Union. The survey was conducted by the Opinion Way Institute and based on a representative cross-section of the French population.

EPP Leaders debate the economic situation in Europe

Leaders of the EPP met in Dublin today to debate the economic situation in Europe during a meeting hosted by the Leader of the Fine Gael and Vice-President of the EPP, Enda Kenny. The basis for the discussion was the document on tax competition recently adopted by all the EPP member parties.

Fighting cancer in an enlarged European Union

During a debate on combating cancer in the EU in the European Parliament today, GUE/NGL MEP and oncologist Dr Adamos Adamou (Cyprus) recalled that "each year more than two million European citizens suffer from some form of cancer, and roughly one million die from cancer (mainly lung, colon or breast cancer)". However, he added, "some 30% of cancers in the EU are preventable and another 30% can be successfully treated".

Environment Committee: For ambitious recycling rates and efficient Waste-to-Energy Plants

With the acceptance of the ambitious energy efficiency criteria for Waste-to-Energy plants the Parliament’s Environment Committee took an important step towards climate protection in yesterday’s vote on the Waste Framework Directive.

Efficient Waste-to-Energy plants, together with high recycling rates pave the way towards sustainable waste and energy management in the future.
