Frankfurt/Brussels, 9 May 2025–VDMA Executive Director Thilo Brodtmann comments on the first visit of the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to Brussels:
Today, the European Parliament adopted a key report revising the EU’s foreign investment screening regulation, led by S&D rapporteur Raphaël Glucksmann. This reform aims to guarantee the Union’s economic security by controlling investments in strategic sectors and to reduce strategic dependencies on foreign actors.
The S&D Group managed to ensure a majority in today's adoption by the European Parliament's plenary of a report on the EU’s next pluriannual budget after 2027, also known as the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). With the input from the Socialists and Democrats in the negotiations with other political groups, the report sends a strong progressive message to the European Commission.
