New single rulebook gives teeth to EU anti-money laundering laws

The S&D Group in the European Parliament welcomes the new legislative package presented by the European Commission today on anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing in the EU. The new package includes proposals for a new EU agency that is being created to fight money laundering, as well as new rules that will give teeth to the EU’s ability to enforce anti-money laundering laws and ensure that all EU countries apply the same rules.

Commission rule of law report failing to live up to potential

The S&D Group welcomes the latest annual assessment on the rule of law in the EU but expresses concerns that the report will fail to improve the situation in the Member States without clear and specific recommendation to EU governments.

New forest strategy misses the opportunity to maximise climate mitigation effect of the forest-based sector

The new Forest Strategy is an important piece of the European Commission architecture to deliver on the European Green Deal. There is a consensus on the need for the new forest strategy to foster a European circular bioeconomy and the sustainability of Europe’s forests to achieve the 2050 climate neutrality target. However, Cepi does not see the coherence between different policies addressing and impacting forests in the proposed strategy.

Fit for 55 package: not yet fit for Europe’s industrial workers

The Fit for 55 package published today, that translates the increased 2030 climate target into specific measures, represents a dramatic acceleration of the EU’s decarbonisation. Industry and its workforce are among the most impacted by these measures. IndustriAll Europe is disappointed that despite some interesting initiatives, the Fit for 55 package does not include new measures or significant resources to ensure that workers are guaranteed a Just Transition while accelerating the EU’s decarbonisation.

“Fit for 55” – The waste management sector works together to reduce emissions

As reflected in the proposals included in the “Fit for 55” climate package, sustainable waste management may contribute to the European goals of emissions reduction. Waste-to-Energy has an instrumental role in the treatment of non-recyclable waste.
