Ukrainian Airspace restricted for civil aviation operations

24 February 2022, Brusssels. Due to high safety risks caused by military activity, the Ukrainian airspace is restricted (i.e. closed) for civil aviation operations.

Based on information received by EUROCONTROL and EASA, Air operators are reminded that this is now an active conflict zone. Under these circumstances, the aforementioned airspace and critical infrastructure, including airports, are exposed to military activities which result in safety risks for civil aircraft.

Europe’s building only half the wind energy it needs for the Green Deal, supply chain is struggling as a result

Europe is not building enough new wind energy to reach its energy and climate targets. According to WindEurope’s Annual Statistics 2021, the EU built only 11 GW of new wind farms in 2021 and is set to build 18 GW a year over 2022-26. But the EU needs 30 GW a year of new wind to meet its 2030 renewables target. The slow expansion rate is impacting on Europe’s wind energy supply chain.

FIA EB welcomes Data Act and supports path towards sector-specific legislation

23 February 2022 - The European Commission unveiled its Data Act proposal today, which aims at ensuring fair data access and use, as well as empowering consumers to remain in control over their data. The proposal sets out horizontal data access and use principles and confirms that these will be complemented by legislation addressing sector-specific challenges.

The study carried out by Wageningen University and Research and commissioned by CropLife Europe released at the end of January 2022 concludes that the implementation of the F2F and Biodiversity strategies in the EU Green Deal would compromise the European agri-food sector to "lower agricultural yields, to price increases, less European exports and more imports of agricultural products from outside Europe”.
