The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) has today elected Andrew Garrad as its new President. Garrad joined the wind energy industry in 1979 and was President and later Chairman of GL Garrad Hassan, the world's largest independent renewable energy consultancy, with 1,000 employees in 27 countries devoted to renewable energy.

Garrad built his first wind turbine when he was eighteen in 1971 and was awarded in 2006 the Poul la Cour Prize for his outstanding contribution to wind energy.

The Greek efforts on combating the financial crisis was the main topic of the first session of the meeting of the EPP Group Presidency with the Heads of National Delegations in Athens. Opening the meeting, the Chairman of the EPP Group, Joseph Daul, welcomed the participants and especially Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

"International Women's Day must promote and celebrate women's responses to the crisis, their contribution to bringing back growth, and their fight against stereotypes", said Mariya Gabriel MEP and Elisabeth Morin-Chartier MEP on Thursday 7 March.

"This day is an occasion to insist on the positive role played by women in Europe's economy and on the whole of society", underlined Mariya Gabriel, the EPP Group's Spokeswoman on women's rights and gender equality.
