New ecodesign rules for heaters pave the way to more renewable solutions in the future

Brussels, 15 March 2013 – EHPA and EPEE welcome this week’s adoption of the Ecodesign requirements for heaters by Member States experts. These new rules are expected to foster the uptake of renewable heating solutions, and in particular heat pumps.
“Following the adoption of the energy label, ecodesign rules for heaters mark a second major step towards the achievement of EU’s 2020 targets, in particular improving energy efficiency and the use of renewables in Europe.” comments Andrea Voigt, EPEE Director General.

27 country reports: Energy efficiency policy profiles of every EU Member State

27 country reports assessing national energy efficiency policies in every EU Member State have now been published within the Energy-Efficiency-Watch project. The reports are based on the screening of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAPs) as well as an expert survey, involving about 750 experts, on the implementation of those policies since the first NEEAPs were published in 2007. The country reports provide a unique overview of policy packages and the current implementation status of energy efficiency policies in each Member State.

Towards a Europe-wide database of accidents and injuries

Brussels, 14 March 2013 – A broad coalition of European organisations has come together to call on the European Commission to propose setting up a Pan-European Accident and Injury Data System. They are convinced that such a system would contribute to fewer accidents and injuries. Moreover, the cost of creating such a system would be more than offset by reductions in health care costs.

European Parliament votes yes to 2030 renewable energy target

Today the European Parliament called for the "successful" 2020 renewable energy target to be prolonged to 2030.

"The Parliament has once again recognised what a strong renewables industry, driven by ambitious targets, can do for Europe's economy, jobs, energy security and the climate", commented Stephane Bourgeois, Head of Regulatory Affairs at the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).

"The European Commission must heed the Parliament's support for a target when it publishes its Green Paper on 2030 energy policy in the next few weeks".

EU energy and climate policy drives bio-energy CHP in European cities

Despite facing the challenge of a product which is poorly understood and deployed, the project1 has developed a strategy to move the sector forward.
