European Parliament votes yes to 2030 renewable energy target

Today the European Parliament called for the "successful" 2020 renewable energy target to be prolonged to 2030.

"The Parliament has once again recognised what a strong renewables industry, driven by ambitious targets, can do for Europe's economy, jobs, energy security and the climate", commented Stephane Bourgeois, Head of Regulatory Affairs at the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).

"The European Commission must heed the Parliament's support for a target when it publishes its Green Paper on 2030 energy policy in the next few weeks".

The 2nd European Conference on "Learning Innovations and Quality" (LINQ 2013) has announced several high-ranking speakers to be present during the event on May 16th and 17th at the Global Headquarters of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy. Figures such as the esteemed Prof. Dr. Rory McGreal and Prof. Dr. Fred Mulder, both UNESCO chairs for Open Educational Resources (OER), as well as Christian-Friedrich Lettmayer, Director of the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), will contribute their experience to the conference.

Solidarity with participants in European Spring actions

GUE/NGL MEPs have voiced their support for the European Spring, a pan-European movement of actions, strikes and demonstrations all over Europe that aim to denounce the austerity policies purported by European leaders gathering today in Brussels for their latest summit.

In a joint declaration addressed to the Tripartite Social Summit, partners of the Public Services Employers’ Forum (PSEF) have highlighted three elements for reshaping the future in view of the current issues high on the European agenda:

1. Prioritise an EU budget for the medium- and long-term;
2. Secure the provision of public services;
3. Support employment and youth employability.

"In the past, there have been some difficulties due to remaining grey zones in the rules governing the rights of air passengers. Passengers therefore had to appeal to court in some cases when they wanted to clarify and enforce their rights to assistance or compensation when their flight was cancelled or delayed. In the new proposal, the Commission has taken into account the rulings of the European Court of Justice.
