European Citizens' Initiative marks one year anniversary

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) today convened key stakeholders to mark one year since the establishment of the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) – the world's first direct, digital and transnational tool of participatory democracy.

A new management for EFET Deutschland to face the Energiewende (“Energy Turnaround”)

The management of EFET Deutschland1 is changing, the daughter federation of EFET Europe, covering the German wholesale trading market for electricity and gas. At the EFET Deutschland Board meeting of 27 March 2013, the former Chair of the German Task Force for Electricity (GTFE) Alexander Kox (Trianel) was elected Chair of the Board and Barbara Lempp was appointed Managing Director of EFET Deutschland, taking over from Jan Haizmann. Annette Seefeld (GDF SUEZ Energie Deutschland) will be chairing GTFE.

Caritas draws attention to worsening situation of Roma people in Europe on International Roma Day

According to the most recent Caritas Europa ‘Europe 2020 Shadow Report’, the Roma population constitutes one of the largest ethnic minorities in Europe – between 10 and 12 million citizens. This minority is spread through the European continent and is highly concentrated in Central and Eastern Europe.

Jorge Nuño-Mayer, Secretary General of Caritas Europa says:

Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, and Lívia Járóka MEP, the only Roma Member of the European Parliament, commenting on International Roma Day on 8 April, said:

Michel Bénézit is appointed President of CONCAWE, the oil companies’ European organisation for refining and distribution.

Michel Bénézit, former Executive Vice President and member of Total’s Group Executive Committee, was elected President of CONCAWE on March 14th 2013 for a two year term. He succeeds the outgoing President, Dr. Josef Waltl.

Management Matters: EFMD Host Workshop for Key Stakeholders

Europe has enormous wealth in terms of intellectual, scientific, cultural and human resources. Yet, it is in danger of becoming a secondary region, as we seem to be incapable of bringing our strength to bear. To counter this trend, a paradigm change will be required. We need to liberate the human potential that we have in our institutions and organizations, by overcoming a culture adverse to innovation and entrepreneurship, counterproductive regulations, ineffective organizations and inadequate management practices.

European social partners of the postal sector committed to promoting environmental awareness

Brussels, 4 April 2013: Today, the social partners of the European Social Dialogue Committee (SDC) for the postal sector signed the "CSR Joint Conclusions on Environment" in the presence of high-level representatives from the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion) and members of the SDC, PostEurop and UNI, to acknowledge the postal sector's social role and commitment to address the environmental issues impacting the industry.
