Tymoshenko ruling illustrates selective justice by Ukraine. Elmar Brok MEP

In reaction to today's ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Julia Tymoshenko vs. Ukraine, the Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Elmar Brok MEP, said:

"The ruling by the European Court of Human Rights confirms the trial against Ms Tymoshenko was politically-motivated. Ms Tymoshenko must be freed immediately."

Key decision for bees as European Commission pushes for proposed neonicotinoid suspension

Crucial proposals from the European Commission to suspend the use of neonicotinoid insecticides - due to their damaging impact on bee populations - were today upheld after a vote by EU member states. The outcome of the vote (1) in the Comitology Appeal Committee will enable the proposed suspension to be implemented. There was no majority for or against the proposal of the Commission, and according to the comitology procedure, the Commission can now push ahead with its partial ban by imposing it via an implementing act.

MAJORITY OF MEPS SAY EUROPEAN UNEMPLOYMENT SET TO WORSEN IN NEXT 12 MONTHS

Most MEPs expect European unemployment to get worse over the next 12 months, according to the latest ComRes Europoll™ results. MEPs were generally downbeat across all of the economic indicators tested, with the majority expecting the indicators to stay the same or worsen. The only glimmer of light was for economic growth prospects where marginally more MEPs expect improvement than expect it to worsen.

But one-third of MEPs expect inflation to worse, and the same proportion expect interest rates to increase over the next 12 months, potentially setting recovery back even further,

Passenger Name Records: rejection vote is a major setback for European security. Véronique Mathieu MEP and Axel Voss MEP

Today, the Left wing of the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee managed to secure the necessary majority to reject the use of EU air passenger name records (PNR) data in the investigations of serious crimes and terrorist offences. This rejection is extremely dangerous and a setback in the fight against terrorism, serious crime and security", said EPP Group Coordinator in the committee, Véronique Mathieu MEP.
