ETNO calls for harmonized approach for spectrum

BRUSSELS – The use of frequency bands for wireless broadband applications should be harmonized at European and preferably worldwide levels, says ETNO in its response to the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) consultation on Strategic Challenges facing Europe in addressing the Growing Spectrum Demand for Wireless Broadband.

German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers` Association warns: Transition time for exemption rules concerning electric motors is way too short

Frankfurt am Main, May 6, 2013 – To close gaps in the Eco-Design Directive regarding energy-efficient drives, the European Commission plans to strengthen the Commission Regulation (640/2009) with regard to Eco-Design requirements for electric motors with a transitional period of only 20 days. So far, motors that are intended for the use in heights above 1,000 m (above sea-level) or a surrounding temperature of over 40° C or under minus 15° C are exempted from the Eco-Design Directive.

Official controls: cooperation with business is the key to success

Today, the Commission published its Food and Feed Safety package, which includes a legislative proposal on official controls for food and feed. The proposal introduces new concepts such as ensuring sufficient resources to implement official controls by transferring its costs to the private sector, transparency of control results, and the possibility for the Commission to introduce additional compulsory testing regimes in the food chain.

Eurocare strongly supports Court's judgment on Minimum Unit Pricing for alcohol in Scotland

The Court of Session, Scotland's supreme civil court, has ruled today in favour of the legality of the Scottish government's plans to introduce minimum pricing per unit of alcohol.

Judge Lord Doherty, sitting at the Court of Session in Edinburgh heard the legal arguments from the alcohol industry and the Scottish Government over several days earlier this year.

The alcohol industry will have 21 days in which to decide whether it has grounds for appeal.

CISAC welcomes the European Court's judgment to uphold their appeal against the 2008 European Commission decision on author's rights

Paris/Berlin/Brussels, 12th April 2013 – CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, welcomes the decision of the General Court of the European Union today to uphold their appeal against the 2008 EU Commission decision (COMP/C2/38.698). In doing so, the allegation that CISAC and their member societies had engaged in a concerted practice in order to restrict competition has been finally rejected.
