S&D: A new war in the Gaza Strip must be prevented

Following the recent Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip and rockets from Palestinian armed groups that brought several casualties and injuries, the S&D strongly condemns all violent action against civilians and calls on all parties to put an immediate end to the violence.

S&Ds: We need an independent way to monitor democracy and the rule of law situation in EU member states

The European Parliament today voted on a resolution on the rule of law situation in Romania. S&D MEPs supported the resolution, but again stressed the need for the creation of an independent mechanism to monitor the situation of democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights in each member state. The Parliament will vote on a resolution tomorrow calling on the European Commission to create such a mechanism.
 

ACCA joins the European Alliance for Apprenticeships at major event - European Vocational Skills Week 2018

From 5 - 9 November 2018, ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) participated in the third European Vocational Skills Week, organised by the European Commission and the Austrian Presidency, to show the value of vocational and educational training (VET) at all stages in life. At the event, ACCA also signed its pledge to the European Alliance for Apprenticeships.

CLEAN ENERGY: S&Ds lead EU transition towards increased energy savings and more renewables

During a plenary debate yesterday, Socialists and Democrats explained the successful outcome of recent negotiations with the Council of the European Union on the Clean Energy Package. Tomorrow, the plenary will back the deal reached by the parliament’s negotiators Mirolsav Poche and José Blanco for a new Energy Efficiency Directive and a Renewable Energy Directive, along with a new regulation on energy governance.

ETNO signs the ‘’Paris call for trust and security in Cyberspace’’ and joins Women4Cyber initiative

Paris 12 November 2018 – ETNO, the Association representing Europe’s leading telecom operators, joined the early supporters of the French Government’s ‘’Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace”, launched today by President Emmanuel Macron on the occasion of the Paris Digital Week. In this context, ETNO’s Director General Lise Fuhr has also joined the Women4Cyber initiative.
 

S&Ds criticise Austrian presidency on political exploitation of UN global migration compact

Following the announcement of the Austrian government, and decisions by Hungary and the United States not to join the UN Global Compact for Migration, the S&D Group has successfully called for an urgent discussion of the topic in this week’s plenary meeting in Strasbourg.
