European socialists and democrats, united behind a Common Candidate, met in Brussels today to set out their ambition for the 2019 EU elections. After Frans Timmermans was endorsed as the PES Common Candidate by fellow Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, the President of the S&D Group Udo Bullmann hosted an exchange with Frans Timmermans at the S&D Group meeting today, with the participation of Maros Šefčovič and PES President Sergei Stanishev.

In order to further strengthen our unity, Maroš Šefčovič has announced that he supports Frans Timmermans as the Common Candidate to lead the PES family into the 2019 European Parliament elections. This brings the full force of the PES behind one lead candidate, and allows us to kick-start our campaign.

Yesterday, S&Ds led a vote in the economic and monetary affairs committee to increase disclosures on sustainable investments and sustainability risks across the EU. Under the new rules, investors and asset managers will be required to include environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations in their decision-making processes and carry out due diligence on their investment decisions. In addition to increasing the transparency of financial products, the report will also facilitate investments in sustainable projects across the Union.

Ahead of the European Parliament elections 2019, the S&D Group will hold an exchange with Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President European Commission, who has presented himself as PES Spitzenkandidat for European Commission President. Frans Timmermans is now the sole PES candidate following the decision of European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič to withdraw from the race and unite the party behind one candidate.

Clonbio Group Ltd shows strong performance in renewables and animal nutrition

The trading and financial performance of ClonBio Group Ltd, the parent company of Ethanol Europe and Pannonia Bio, for the year ended December 31st, 2017 was strong with Revenues increasing by 11 per cent to €278 million and Gross Profit up €14.3m or almost 23 per cent to €77.2m, the Group announced in Dublin today. Operating profit was €11.4m higher at €35.5m.
