S&Ds: The alarming Thomas Cook bankruptcy shows the need for a European legislation that guarantees workers’ and consumers’ rights

Following the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook, the European Parliament, with the full support of the S&D Group, adopted a joint resolution which calls on the Commission to put forward with urgency a comprehensive legislation that not only guarantees workers’ and consumers’ rights, but also avoids in the future tens of thousands of travelers being left or stranded.

This webinar will be a 30 minutes discussion regarding the recent CEN and CENELEC BT decision on the handling of comments to drafts submitted to Formal Vote (FV). Today several projects are blocked after FV because of a great number of comments of non purely editorial nature. The solution agreed by the CEN and CENELEC Technical Boards is in line with current ISO and IEC rules and behaviours. It will be applied to final drafts submitted to CCMC as of 1 December 2019.

Following the vote today in Plenary, the S&D Group welcomes the adoption of a joint resolution on the assessment of the impact of plant protection products on bees. The European Commission must now take into due consideration in its regulation the risks of chronic toxicity to bees and the effects on other pollinators.
 

EU 2020 Budget - highest EP stance ever on climate change and youth

Today, in Plenary, the S&D Group pushed for the highest ever EU budget, focused on our priorities. Adding up to 3 billion euros more to the initial draft budget proposed by the Commission is what we need in order to supplement crucial priorities such as the fight against climate change, Erasmus+, migration, development or the youth employment initiative. Undoubtedly, tough negotiations will follow on the suggested 3 billion euro increase. This is why S&D Group members call on EU member states to step up and take financial responsibility.
