"We will not accept anything less than an MFF that works for the people,” say S&Ds

The next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021 - 2027 is crucial for the proper functioning of the EU. In a vote today, in Plenary, S&D MEPs have emphasised that the EU budget should reflect the current needs and requests of EU citizens - such as commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, and a Just Transition Fund. Furthermore, negotiations with the Council should start with no further delay, as essential programmes could be under threat. This will prove to be detrimental to their recipients, and this is an option we will not accept.

S&Ds on Turkish invasion in Syria: “EU must use all available instruments to put pressure on Ankara”

In a statement in the European Parliament Plenary today, S&D vice-president Kati Piri called for an immediate EU response in reaction to the start of the Turkish military operation in Northern Syria.
 

A robust budget is essential for the just transition to an environmentally and socially sustainable EU, says Iratxe García

Today at the plenary debate on the upcoming European Council on the 17th and 18th of October, the leader of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament addressed the main priorities for the S&D Group.

While justice and home affairs ministers met in Luxembourg in the last two days to discuss the state of play on migration in the EU, at least 13 more people lost their lives trying to reach Europe. The S&D Group is calling for action from member states to prevent tragic and meaningless deaths in the Mediterranean and for a fair system of distribution based on solidarity.

FIEC asks for more EU budget for transport

A coalition of stakeholders in which FIEC is taking part and which aims at raising awareness for the potential of the transport sector and its financial needs stresses that a stronger EU budget for transport is of utmost importance for the European economy: “On its own, completing the TEN-T network will create 10 million extra jobs by 2030. State-of-the art transport infrastructure is also an investment in long-term growth and jobs. Investing € 750 billion [could] generate € 4,551 billion additional GDP.
