Breakthrough on first-ever methane emissions reduction plan in the EU

The European Parliament, Council and Commission have reached, at 4 am this morning, an ambitious agreement to reduce methane emissions, which are over 80 times more climate damaging than CO2. Since they leave the atmosphere much faster than carbon dioxide, their reduction will bring rapid and significant benefits to combatting climate change and its impacts. 
 

European Social Partners alert: Construction sector must have prior notification

The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) and the European  Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) are sounding the alarm for today’s Coreper meeting. The European sectoral social partners for the construction industry jointly oppose the  possibility that prior notification would not apply to postings in the construction industry,  including for short-term postings.

Brussels, 14 November 2023 – With the last trilogue that took place yesterday, the European Parliament and the Council have enshrined the end of the negotiation and the beginning of the formal adoption of the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).

Finally, good news on the international horizon. After two years of debates, halts and restarts, vetoes, and hard negotiations, the new Post-Cotonou Agreement has officially been signed in Samoa today between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACP). This new multilateral instrument will constitute the new legal framework for the European Union’s relations with 47 countries in Africa, 16 in the Caribbean, and 15 in the Pacific, as well as the Republic of Maldives.
