European Court of Justice confirms farmers’ right to cultivate GM crops

On 6 September, the European Court of Justice clarified the legal requirements for the cultivation of genetically-modified (GM) crops in the Member States of the European Union. The Court confirmed that additional national authorization procedures, introduced on top of the existing approval process conducted by the European authorities (European Food Safety Authority) to be unlawful. It also declared that coexistence measures are not mandatory to grow GM plants.

Jean-Pierre Debruxelles joins EUROPIA as Executive Officer in charge of Air Quality and refining issues.

Brussels, 4 September 2012: Isabelle Muller, EUROPIA Secretary General announced
that Mr. Jean-Pierre Debruxelles will join EUROPIA as Executive Officer in charge of Air
Quality & Refining issues as per the 1st of October 2012.

Jean-Pierre Debruxelles has a strong background in Environmental issues since he held the position of Head of Corporate Environment of SIF (Joint venture between NLMK and Duferco) and subsequently of Environment Director for the steel producer NMLK-Europe.

EWEA SEEKS NEW CEO AS KJAER ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE

The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer following the decision of Christian Kjaer to stand down from April 2013.

Christian Kjaer has been CEO of EWEA since 2006. From 2003-2006 he was EWEA Policy Director, and previously worked for the Danish Wind Industry Association and the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende. He has an MSc in International Business. 

ETNO and A.T. Kearney agree to partnership for economic policy research in telecoms

Brussels – The European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) and international management consulting firm A.T. Kearney have signed a new strategic partnership agreement to reinforce their cooperation and conduct a series of joint research activities to promote a better understanding of economic policy in the telecommunications sector.
