On the morning of Monday, September 24th, AEGEE-Europe, through its president Luis Alvarado Martínez, participated in a flashmob-like protest denouncing the violation of freedom of speech and youth rights in Russia, during the opening ceremony of the 9th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Youth, in Saint Petersburg.

Following research that revealed that Monsanto Roundup weed killer and a GM corn resistant to it caused tumours, multiple organ damage and lead to premature death in rats, GUE/NGL MEPs Kartika Liotard and Nikos Chountis have tabled a written question to Health Commissioner, John Dalli, asking for a re-examination of Commission GMO policy.

ANEC wants to add a discordant note to the fanfares that have greeted the release of the Apple iPhone 5 which goes on sale tomorrow in some European countries. In the introduction of Lighting, its new proprietary connector, Apple has in a flash rendered obsolete many millions of accessories that are compatible with the 30-pin dock connector first introduced with the iPod in 2003. Although Apple promises “a bunch of accessories to help you deal with that”1, these fixes will not be made available to consumers free-of-charge.
