The right policy choices could transform rural energy today

 BRUSSELS, 28 November 2012 – Cleaner and more energy efficient energy solutions, propelled by targeted EU policies, could transform today’s energy profile for rural communities, according to a White Paper on ‘Policy Recommendations for Sustainable Rural Communities in Europe’ released today.

The Member States and Commission are currently assessing the potential role timing of risk management option (RMO) analysis in preparation of a Road Map on restriction and authorisation announced by the Commission. Eurometaux asks them to undertake early RMO analysis for potential SVHCs as an effective and efficient basis for determining the most appropriate risk management tool for metal and chemical substances that may be of high concern.

European Parliament agrees 6 billion Euros for clean energy research

The European Parliament's Energy and Research Committee (ITRE) has voted today to allocate three-quarters of the next energy research budget to renewables, energy efficiency, smart grids and storage. This would make a total of 6 billion Euros, including the Intelligent Energy Europe programme1, out of an overall 80 billion Euros for R&D under Horizon 2020.

EUROPIA welcomes the decision by Commissioner Oettinger to set up a permanent forum for EU refining at the beginning of 2013 and the implication of this forum in the proposed fitness check of the sector.

Brussels, 27 November 2012: Commissioner Günther Oettinger announced during the Conference on EU refining the creation at the beginning of 2013 of a “permanent forum for EU refining” that will monitor and assess the situation of the industry and the outcome of the fitness check proposed in the Industrial Policy Communication published by the Commission in October 2012, which will be undertaken in the first half of next year.
