17 September European Parliament event to launch new report on the contribution of the hospitality sector to Europe’s economy

On 17 September will take place an event in the European Parliament to launch a new report by Ernst & Young on the contribution made by the hospitality sector to Europe’s economy, growth and jobs. Entitled “Toasting Europe´s future: The role of the hospitality industry in re-launching growth”, the launch will take place over a dinner debate from 18.30 to 20.30 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

PKN ORLEN wins back investment-grade standing

Today, Fitch Ratings has raised PKN ORLEN's credit rating to BBB-, with a 'stable' outlook, which means that after four years the Company has won back its investment-grade standing. This long-awaited change is a result of a consistent deleveraging effort and a policy aimed to maintain all financial ratios at safe levels, which has significantly improved the Company's credit standing, despite the persistently challenging climate for the industry across Europe. Fitch Ratings has also upgraded the Company's national rating to A- (pol), with a 'stable' outlook.

EMF Responds to EBA on Responsible Lending and Arrears Handling Good Practices

The European Mortgage Federation (EMF) has today responded to the European Banking Authority’s (EBA) Opinions on Good Practices for Responsible Mortgage Lending and for the treatment of borrowers in mortgage payment difficulties (“arrears handling”). These Opinions are addressed to competent authorities and aim at promoting common practices, with the ultimate goal of enhancing consumer protection and contributing to the stability, integrity and effectiveness of the financial system.

EU must involve UN General Assembly and push for peace talks

Commenting on the debate on possible responses following the use of chemical weapons near Damascus and the search for possible solutions to the Syria conflict, Green foreign policy co-spokespersons Franziska Brantner and Ulrike Lunacek stated:

“The use of chemical weapons represents a shocking breach of international law that must not go unanswered. While urgent action is now required by the international community, no decision should be made before the findings of the UN expert mission are available.

SYRIA: Only a political solution can save lives

"A military retaliatory act against Syria won't protect anyone, on the contrary it will only cost more innocent lives," said GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer, following the recent calls for military intervention from the US, France, and the UK.

"The GUE/NGL Group strongly condemns the use of chemicals against the civilian population and considers it a crime against humanity," Zimmer stressed. "But the only way to avoid further harm is through a political solution, not foreign military intervention."

Integrated report sets out how ACCA creates public value

ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) annual report for 2012 / 13 has been published for the second year using the draft framework issued by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).

The framework is centred on the material information about an organisation’s strategy, governance, performance and prospects that reflect the commercial, social and environmental context within which the organisation operates.
