European Parliament Committee backs Child Guarantee in European Social Fund Plus

Eurochild welcomes this vote which will for the first time recognise reduction of child poverty as one of the objectives of the EU’s future budget.
 
With a vote on the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) for the period 2021-27 on 3 December, the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) voted. to introduce the Child Guarantee with a dedicated budget of €5.9 billion.

On 6 & 7 December, over 200 delegates attended the industriAll Europe Collective Bargaining Conference “Labour 4.0. – Strong Collective Bargaining to Shape Digitalisation” in Bratislava, Slovakia. They debated the role of collective agreements and workers’ rights in light of digitalisation. Key conference topics included the developments in collective bargaining systems, the low-wage recovery, growing inequalities including the east-west pay gap as well as working time and the future of pension systems.

Zita Gurmai was speaking at the PES Women annual conference after delegates re-elected her to head up the organisation for the next two and a half years.
 

S&Ds lead vote to reduce risks from non-performing loans in the EU banking sector

The Socialists and Democrats led today a vote in the economic and monetary affairs committee to tackle non-performing loans (NPLs) and reduce risk in the banking sector. NPLs or ‘bad’ loans refer to bank loans whose payment is delayed or is unlikely to happen. The S&Ds expressed concerns over the historically high levels of bad loans which can negatively affect investments and the economy.
