Rebuild social justice, reshape capitalism, empower people: Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament will present their roadmap for change at the PES Congress in Lisbon

The PES member parties and organisations will get together in Lisbon on December 7th and 8th to officially designate Frans Timmermans as their common candidate to lead the European Commission following the upcoming European elections next May.
The president of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Udo Bullmann MEP, will advocate for a radically different Europe, as detailed in a report drafted by the Progressive Society Independent Commission on Inequalities. Over six months, this commission gathered 30 politicians and experts, led by former Prime Minister of Denmark, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, and the former economics and labour minister from Greece, Louka Katseli.
On Friday morning, Udo Bullmann, Poul N. Rasmussen and Louka Katseli will speak at a conference in which they will detail the proposed roadmap (see conference programme).
Udo Bullmann said:
“We put forward 110 policy ambitious proposals to change the course of the European Union in the next term from 2019 to 2024.  We want them to be embedded in a radically different approach to European governance built on a new Sustainable Development Pact.
“We already discussed this vision with Frans Timmermans when he came to exchange points of view for over three hours with our group and we backed him as the Progressive common candidate. Now we also want to share our proposals with Progressive national leaders and other PES partners.
"Our societies need to adapt to globalisation, climate change, the digital revolution all at a fast pace. We propose a new approach to gear these transformations towards a fair and sustainable society. In order to overcome the wave of populism and mistrust in the institutions we must re-empower people, re-shape capitalism and re-build social justice. All this can only be done if we introduce higher coherence between our economic, social and environmental policies. It is clear that greening the economy is not enough if you leave people behind.”
