Today the foreign affairs committee voted its annual report on Turkey, drafted by S&D MEP Kati Piri, in which European Parliamentarians called on the member states to formally suspend the accession negotiation with Ankara, due to a stark regression in the area of the rule of law and human rights in the country during the last few years. At the same time however, the report expresses the will to keep bridges with the citizens of Turkey and continue to provide support to civil society.

Today the culture and education committee in the European Parliament backed the report drafted by S&D MEP Silvia Costa to strengthen the Creative Europe programme for the period 2021 to 2027.

 

The culture committee today backed new rules on the financing for the new Erasmus+ Programme. This flagship initiative to unite Europeans deserves proper funding, therefore the S&Ds proposes to triple its financing from €15 billion of the period 2014-2020 to €45 billion in the 2021-2027 period. S&Ds also call for more financial support in particular for adult education and vocational training.
