S&Ds demand that the seasonal time change is abolished by 2021

Strong controversy has arisen in recent years on the pros and cons of seasonal time change. Many countries decide to change to summer or wintertime to save energy, but it also has adverse impacts on crop yields and animal welfare, interrupting the biorhythms of livestock, which, for example, affects the milking of cows. Changes of time also have a negative impact on public health, with children and older people being those most affected. In any case, any time change in the EU must be coordinated for the functioning of transport and the internal market.

Ahead of the International Women’s Day on 8 March the S&D Group promotes a step forward in women’s rights and gender equality to counter the backlash promoted by right-wing conservatives. The S&D Group celebrates women's rights day throughout the week with debates and protests #All4Equality.

A sub-committee on human rights cross party delegation of the European Parliament, led by S&D MEP Antonio Panzeri, visited Rome with the objective of meeting migrants and refugees located in community centres in order to collect first-hand information about their experiences traveling from the country of origin to the country of destination.
 

Udo Bullmann presents a progressive vision for a sustainable Europe in Athens (EN/EL)

S&D Group leader Udo Bullmann will travel to Athens to present the Progressive Society policy report on Sustainable Equality at an event on Monday, March 4, co-organised with the Athens office of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Athens Development & Governance Institute (A.D.G.I-INERPOST). The report was put together by a group of independent experts under the lead of former Greek minister of Labour and the Economy Louka Katseli and former PES-President and Prime Minister of Denmark Poul Nyrup Rasmussen.
