The European Parliament today approved an agreement that will significantly strengthen the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.
 
S&D Group MEP, Péter Niedermüller who negotiated the new rules on behalf of the Parliament said:

EU reforms consumer protection rules and improves transparency

S&D negotiator Evelyne Gebhardt fought for more transparency for consumers when they use online platforms, such as Amazon, booking.com or other online marketplaces. When consumers buy or plan their holidays online it can be confusing to know why certain products are ranked the way they are. In future, consumers will receive information about the seller, the parameters used to make up a ranking, whether a seller has paid to be placed higher up a ranking and how the review system on the website works.

Following the today vote in the European Parliament’s agriculture committee on the Strategic Plan regulation of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP), the S&D Group underlines the shortcomings of the draft report backed by a conservative-liberal majority that has even less ambition in terms of sustainability and environmental protection than the proposal from the Commission.

The S&D Group welcomes the results of the local elections held yesterday in Turkey. Despite the oppression against opposition forces, unbalanced media and the use of administrative resources in favour of the ruling AKP party, AKP together with their nationalist MHP ally seem to have been defeated in Ankara and Istanbul by the opposition CHP and have also lost ground in many other provinces.
