In a vote in the European Parliament today, S&D MEPs strengthened their call for a strong budget for the EU in the upcoming year. As the first of an unprecedented multi-annual financial framework, this budget must mirror citizens’ priorities: health, climate, youth and culture, while also upholding the social dimension.

Eider Gardiazabal MEP, S&D spokeswoman on budget, said:

London, UK - Downing Street is planning to impose a total ban of all online advertising of foods high in fat, sugar and/or salt (HFSS) which would include everything from promotional emails to Google adverts. HFSS products would be classed in scope of the sugar and calorie reduction programmes.

Today, the European Parliament is set to prolong the successful cooperation programme Network of European public Employment Services (PES) for another seven years. The Socialists and Democrats support the platform, which enables the exchange of best practices, setting benchmarks and mutual learning with the goal of becoming more effective and efficient.

Today, the European Parliament approved the EU-China agreement on the cooperation and protection of geographical indications* (GIs). This will protect 100 European and Chinese geographical indicators and another 175 from both sides after four years.
