Porto Agenda for social rights: it is time to fulfil Europe’s promise again

This afternoon, the European Parliament’s employment committee will vote on the report by co-rapporteurs S&D MEP Agnes Jongerius and MEP Dennis Radtke: ‘A strong social Europe for a just transition’, which sets out the Parliament’s ambitions for Europe’s social agenda. The Socialists and Democrats have been working hard to first set up and then implement the European Pillar of Social Rights, whose objectives they now want to make binding for member states.

S&Ds: Debt suspension for vulnerable countries endorsed by G20 Finance Ministers is a just and strategic step to reach SDGs

Following today’s meeting in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, among G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss possible debts treatments and supporting actions in favour of vulnerable countries in their fight against Covid-19, the S&D Group expresses their support. These are crucial to achieve SDGs, fight growing inequalities, and stop and reverse climate change.

With home affairs ministers meeting today via videoconference, the S&D Group in the European Parliament calls for Council’s position on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum to refocus on solidarity, and for discussions to be based on the facts.

Neue Studie: EU versagt bei Rüstungsexportkontrolle

Özlem Alev Demirel, stellvertretende Vorsitzende im Ausschuss für Sicherheit und Verteidigung (SEDE), veröffentlicht heute eine neue Studie zu den steigenden Rüstungsexporten der Europäischen Union. In diesem Zusammenhang kritisiert Demirel auch die neue EU-Rüstungsexport-Datenbank, die deutsche Rüstungsexporte für 2019 mit 0 Euro angibt.

2021 budget of the EU - our first chance to show citizens we stand with them in times of crisis and beyond

In a vote in the European Parliament today, S&D MEPs strengthened their call for a strong budget for the EU in the upcoming year. As the first of an unprecedented multi-annual financial framework, this budget must mirror citizens’ priorities: health, climate, youth and culture, while also upholding the social dimension.

New LGBTI+ equality strategy essential tool in fight against homophobia and rising hate crimes in Europe

The S&D Group in the European Parliament welcomed today an ambitious new LGBTI+ equality strategy presented by S&D Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli. The Commission’s strategy answers the S&D Group’s long-standing calls for a new approach to fighting discrimination and promoting fundamental rights and protection of LGBTI+ people in the EU.
