Cross-industry group of European metals-producing and -using industries and their workers warn against catastrophic impact of Chinese magnesium supply shortage

Europe’s industry associations European Aluminium, Eurofer, ACEA, Eurometaux, industriAll Europe, ECCA, ESTAL, IMA, EUWA, EuroAlliages, CLEPA and Metals Packaging Europe have today issued an urgent call for action against the imminent risk of Europe-wide production shutdowns as a consequence of a critical shortage in the supply of magnesium from China. Magnesium is a key alloying material and widely used in the metals- producing industry.

JRC, CEN AND CENELEC TO STRENGTHEN THEIR WORK ON CONNECTING STANDARDIZATION WITH RESEARCH

On 21 October, the European Committee of Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) renewed their cooperation agreement for further five years. Through the agreement, the three organisations aim to enhance the exchange of knowledge and expertise between scientific research and European standardization.

Pandora Papers: conservatives trying to sweep tax abuse of their own politicians under carpet

The European Parliament will today adopt an ambitious resolution on the Pandora Papers, which has S&D fingerprints all over it.  The Socialists and Democrats have been leading the fight against tax abuse in the European Parliament, and today reiterated their call for abandoning unanimity in the Council on tax matters, reform of the Code of Conduct on business taxation, tougher criteria for tax havens and robust sanctions, as well as increased transparency to tackle financial crime and tax avoidance more effectively.

S&Ds: EU parliament calls on governments, civil society and industry to come together and make COP26 successful

The European Parliament has just approved, with an overwhelming majority, a resolution on COP26 that our S&D delegation will take to the upcoming UN Conference in Glasgow. We will work hard to raise ambition to make sure we meet the 1.5 degree target set in the Paris Agreement. The EU has translated into legislation our ambitious goals in order to become the first continent to be climate neutral by 2050 at the latest. It’s high time everyone, National governments, industry and civil society, come together to save our planet.

S&Ds want more money in the EU budget 2022 for social recovery from the pandemic

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament succeeded in obtaining more money for employment, youth, education, health, research and innovation, agriculture and sustainable transport among others in the negotiating position of the EP on the EU budget for next year. As a result of the vote in plenary, the Parliament goes into negotiations with a strong position, reinforced by the S&D Group, asking for social recovery to be among the top priorities when the new EU budget 2022 is decided together with the member states in the Council.
