Appointment of new CEO of MedTech Europe

Brussels, 12 October 2022 – The Board of MedTech Europe is pleased to announce the appointment of Oliver Bisazza as the new Chief Executive Officer of MedTech Europe with effect from 2 January 2023, succeeding Serge Bernasconi who has announced his retirement. Oliver Bisazza is currently Director General Industrial Policies & External Affairs at MedTech Europe.

S&D Group joins EU leaders at PES Congress in Berlin

On 14 and 15 October, S&D Group President Iratxe García Pérez will join EU leaders Olaf Scholz, Pedro Sánchez, Magdalena Andersson, António Costa, Sanna Marin, and Robert Abela at the 2022 congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Berlin. European Commissioners, like Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans, will also join activists and delegates to debate the challenges facing Europe and Europeans.

Announcing the winners of the COGEN Europe Recognition Awards 2022

PostEurop: Position on the European Taxonomy

CONTEXT

The EU taxonomy1 is a classification system established to clarify which investments are environmentally sustainable, in the context of the European Green Deal. A first delegated act on sustainable activities for climate change adaptation and mitigation objectives2 is applicable since January 2022. A second delegated act for the remaining objectives, i.e. “Environmental Delegated Act”, should be published in 2022.

S&Ds welcome new employment guidelines towards better worker protection

The European Parliament’s employment and social affairs committee yesterday evening endorsed the updated employment guidelines for the European Union member states. These recommendations are intended to improve worker protection by creating more and better jobs across Europe while taking into account the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia’s war against Ukraine. They will be discussed at the plenary next week.

S&D: To save taxpayers’ money, we must stop the planned exchange of an existing European Parliament building in Strasbourg with a newly constructed one

The S&D Group opposes the adoption of a controversial plan to exchange the European Parliament’s Salvador de Madariaga (SDM) building in Strasbourg for a newly constructed building called Osmose. According to the Socialists and Democrats, such an exchange would entail spending an unreasonably high amount of taxpayers’ money. The S&D Group tabled an amendment to stop the plans, spearheaded by the EPP, during a vote in the European Parliament's budget committee on a resolution for the EU budget 2023 for the EU institutions.
