EU and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to work together against poverty-related diseases

The European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have today pledged to work together to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other poverty-related diseases that together affect more than 1 billion people worldwide. The agreement, signed in Paris today by foundation co-chair Bill Gates and European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, creates a new strategic partnership for research in the area.

Malta Police announcement about Dalli case shows unprofessional work of OLAF. Ingeborg Grässle MEP

Following reports that police on Malta found no evidence to incriminate former EU Commissioner John Dalli, the Coordinator of the EPP Group in the Budgetary Control Committee of the European Parliament, Inge Grässle MEP, said:
"The admission by the Maltese police amounts to a declaration of bankruptcy for the work of OLAF Director-General Giovanni Kessler, who personally led the investigation against John Dalli".
"It appears the EU's anti-fraud office OLAF has no criminal evidence against John Dalli".

FIA Director of Communications

Norman Howell will be leaving the position of Director of Communications at the FIA on July 1st.
 
He has accepted the offer to become Vice President of Corporate Communications EMEA Division at the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), based in London.
 
He will be moving back to the UK where he can best combine his professional and family life.

Arnaud de David-Beauregard elected new CLEPA President

At the CLEPA General Assembly in Madrid Mr Peter Tyroller, CLEPA President, announced the appointment of Mr Arnaud de David-Beauregard, FIEV Vice-President, as the next CLEPA President starting office on 1 January 2014.

Mr Tyroller who holds the presidency of the European Association since 2010 said: “I am delighted to welcome Mr Arnaud de David-Beauregard as my successor. His knowledge of the automotive industry and his business experience will be crucial for CLEPA”.

EU anti-hacker law takes totally flawed approach to internet security

The European Parliament's home affairs committee today voted to endorse a legislative agreement reached with Council on EU rules governing cyber attacks (criminal attacks against information systems). The Greens opposed the agreement due to the failure to properly deal with security concerns or to differentiate between different types of system breaches and hackers. After the vote, Green justice spokesperson Jan Philipp Albrecht stated:
