Industrial CHP is key in reaching Irish climate and energy targets

A workshop organised today in Dublin during the Irish Presidency of the EU and in the framework of the CODE2[1] project, discussed the measures that should feature in a Cogeneration Roadmap for Ireland. Industrial cogeneration emerged as a key element in reaching the national energy savings target. “My country is well on its way to implementing a cogeneration friendly framework”, MEP Seán Kelly said.

Investors have lost trust in company reports, reveals ACCA study

Investors are less trustful of corporate reports since the global financial crisis with more than two-thirds saying they are more sceptical about the information companies provide, according to new research from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Trade Defence Instruments: Christofer Fjellner MEP appointed EP Rapporteur

Christofer Fjellner MEP has been appointed the European Parliament's Rapporteur for the European Commission's proposal for the modernisation of the Union's trade defence instruments, the legal foundation for the measures against illegal dumping and subsidies used by companies based in non-EU countries. The Regulation has not been updated since 1995, although attempts were made in 2006/2007.

"I acknowledge the fact that the coordinators of the EPP, S&D, ALDE, ECR and Green groups backed Commissioner De Gucht in his decision to stand firm against China and concerns raised by more than half of the Member States to impose 47% provisional anti-dumping duties on solar panels imported from China. However, in my own capacity, I deplore this decision and the failure to continue negotiations to find a solution suitable for both parties.

GUE/NGL MEPs participate in Athens Alter Summit

As the fight against austerity continues across Europe, eight GUE/NGL MEPs* will take part in the Athens Alter Summit this weekend.

The European Commission and the European Central Bank today published the convergence report assessing that Latvia fulfils all the Maastricht criteria and is ready to join the Eurozone from 2014. On 5 June 2013, Ms Myriam Tryjefaczka, Sustainable Development Manager at Camfil, participated in the session on Indoor Air Quality “There is only one air: better indoor air for better health”, where she called on EU policymakers to step up and harmonise legislation on Indoor Air Quality across Europe.

This year’s Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environmental policy, is dedicated to Air Quality, as 2013 has been designated European Year of Air. A comprehensive review of EU air policy is scheduled to take place in fall 2013.
