New deal for consumers: S&Ds ensure better protection in the digital world

Today Socialists and Democrats in the internal market committee backed measures to reinforce existing consumer rights in the European Union and provide better tools to fight unfair commercial practices, unfair contract terms and price indication. 
The proposed legislation extends consumer protection to grey areas of the online services, such as contracts concluded via platforms or allegedly free services.
 

S&Ds lead fight against water scarcity and better management of urban waste water

Water scarcity affects at least 11% of the European population and 17% of EU territory. Since 1980 Europe has experienced more and more droughts, especially in the south. With global warming and more frequent extreme weather conditions the European Union needs a specific policy to face water scarcity.

S&D MEPs are disappointed by the latest proposals put forward by UK Prime Minister Theresa May that fail to break the deadlock on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. The new proposals follow the historic defeat of the Conservative government last week over the withdrawal agreement and political declaration on future UK-EU relations.
