Time is running out to accelerate up-take of certified sustainable palm oil and bridge the gap from the current 66% to targeted 100%

Brussels, 7 May 2019 - At the end of 2018, 66% of the approximately 3.7 million tonnes of palm oil getting into European refining plants of FEDIOL companies, were certified sustainable. This shows a slight increase compared to last year’s levels.

S&Ds denounce decision to annul Istanbul mayoral elections result under the pressure of Erdogan

Yesterday the Turkish Supreme Election Council (YSK) ordered a rerun of the mayoral race in Istanbul, won in March by the oppositional CHP Party candidate Ekrem Imamoglu. The decision followed extraordinary appeals by the ruling AK Party, which contested the initially certified outcome of these elections. Socialist and Democrats condemn this decision as one-sided in favour of the AK Party and President Erdogan, who cannot accept that they lost the elections.
 

First ever EU Children’s Summit paves way for future of Europe debate

(6 May, Bucharest, Romania) The first ever Children’s Summit involving over 60 children from across Europe has kicked off in Bucharest under the leadership of the Romanian EU Presidency. Eurochild recognises this Summit as a critical milestone in the history of the EU and urges future Presidencies to listen to the demands and consult children on issues that matter to them. It takes place a few days in advance of the Future of Europe Summit in Sibiu, Romania.

ACCA and DFK International renew Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established in March 2018 between ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and DFK was recently renewed by both organisations at ACCA’s headquarters in London. 
The revised MoU builds on the success of the original agreement, and seeks to forge stronger connections between ACCA and DFK and its member firms around the world. 
 

S&Ds call on Turkey to respect the sovereign rights of Cyprus

Following the announcement of Turkey to start drilling within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus, S&D Group leader Udo Bullmann said:
“I express my deep concern regarding the declared intention of Turkey to start drilling within the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus. The European Council condemned already last year the Turkish illegal actions in the region, particularly in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
