Hundreds of campaign activities are taking place today in towns and cities across Europe for the PES Youth Plan Action Day 2017 – which is on track to beat last year's record of 110 activities.
Today's event focuses on the education pillar of the PES Youth Plan, especially the call to make the Erasmus student exchange scheme accessible to everyone.
Hundreds of grassroots campaign activities have been organised by volunteer Youth Plan ambassadors during the course of the Action Day, which has been months in the planning. Photos, videos and media reports are being shared widely on social media, including via the PES headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, where the Twitter hashtag #Act4Youth was trending nationally earlier in the day.
By 15:00 CET today, reports were circulating on social media from:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Croatia
- Finland
- Germany
- Ireland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Montenegro
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- Serbia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Switzerland
- UK
More activities are scheduled to take place this afternoon, through the evening and over the weekend.
In addition to making Erasmus available to all, the PES Youth Plan also envisages:
- A permanent and extended European Youth Guarantee, funded with 20 billion EUR per year
- A European Youth Culture Cheque, a voucher to spend on cultural activities to facilitate accessibility of culture to young people
- A European Child Guarantee to ensure children’s rights to healthcare, education, childcare, housing and nutrition
The aim of the Youth Plan is not just to improve the chances for Europe’s youth, but also to invest in the future of Europe itself by building the next generation of positive, outward-looking Europeans.
