"The Parliament has successfully insisted on guarantees from Commission and Council to ensure the independence and resources of the new European Supervisory Authority bodies (ESAs). The confirmation from the Commission and the Presidency on behalf of the Council last night has met our concerns and thus enabled Parliament today to approve, by a vote in the plenary, the three nominees of the supervisory bodies." said Sylvie Goulard (Modem, France), ALDE coordinator on the economic and monetary affairs committee (ECON).

"We won our argument against those Member States that tried to retain control over supervision that now are called to fulfill their obligations towards this new European supervisory structure. While we hope that the ESAs will start their job with no further delay we underline that Parliament maintains a close eye on the operation of the three new bodies and expects clear progress in pan-European financial supervision." she concluded.
