A humanitarian flotilla on its way to Gaza to bring food and medicines to the population was attacked overnight by the Israeli army. The vessels were manned by unarmed civilians. Initial reports speak of 10 fatalities.

The GUE/NGL Group strongly condemns these unacceptable practices and their devastating consequences. The attack occurred in international waters, yet again in breach of all international law.

The European Union must respond immediately to such impunity. We call for the immediate suspension of the association agreement with Israel, and a debate at Parliament's next session with High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Ms Ashton, to enable the EU to take a clear position in accordance with its principles.
